60 Second Tan
Air Date: 06/20/2002
Tomorrow is officially the 1st day of summer and we all know that means fun in the sun. But if you are someone who is not content with being pasty and pale-chances are you will be working hard a getting a great tan, even if that means sun damage, or worse skin cancer. But tonight, Francis Rivera shows us how to get a safe golden glow just in time for summer in "60 Second Tan"
But still many just can't resist the look of a deep dark tan, many sizzling in the sun, or bronzing in a tanning bed.
Ex-sun-worshiper Gina Trimarchi of Watertown has been searching everything under the sun for a safe golden glow.
Her search stopped when she found the latest tanning treatment to hit the market. It's called Mystic Tan, it's UV-free and the best part, you are in and out in less than one minute!
So, this is how it works, first you put on a hairnet and then rub a special lotion on the palms of your hands-protecting areas you don't want tanned. With a touch of a button a mist of self-tanning solution covers your body. After, a quick towel dry, the tanning process is complete. You'll just have to wait about 6 hours to see the final results. The tanned results you get with the sunless tanning machine are much like what you'd find with this tanning cream, but it's faster, less artificial, and without the mess...
Dr. Ivor Caro of Mass General says the chemical used in the machine is not new:
DHA works by a causing a reaction to the superficial skin layer and produces a temporary bronzed effect. His only advice is after spritzing your way to a golden glow, it's important to remember you still need to wear sun block.
So we checked in with Gina 24 hours later to see how her tan compares to real rays.
So if you are looking to tan without the burn - it may be just a spray away. A sunless tanning session costs about $20 and lasts for about a week. For more information on mystic tan and other sunless tanning salons: http://www.mystictan.com "Forever Tan"
